Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP/KPK) is Pakistan’s northernmost province. It is Pakistan’s third-largest province in terms of people and economy, although being the smallest of the four in terms of area. The ancient kingdom of Gandhara, including the ruins of its capital Pushkalavati near modern-day Charsadda, is located in the province. Prior to the partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947, in ancient times it was a Buddhist stronghold in the region. The region was formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province (NWFP) and merged with the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), also referred to as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Merged Districts (KPMD) or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Newly Merged Districts (KP-NMD), in 2018.
