Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh shares a border with Nepal in the west and is the largest state in India by population and hence sends the most members of the Lok Sabha to Parliament. It has historically been a melting pot of cultural and religious synthesis with important associations with Hinduism, Islam, Jainism and Buddhism. One of the world’s oldest cities – Varanasi – is in Uttar Pradesh. One of the Severn Wonder’s of the World – the Taj Mahal – is also located in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra. Most of the state lies encompassed in the highly fertile plains of the Ganga and its tributaries and it has the rugged Vindhya Range of hills in the south.
