Meghalaya

Meghalaya has historically been the home of the Khasis, Jaintias and Garo tribal communities, which have largely lived peacefully and in seclusion from the rest of the world until the British annexed the region in the late 19th century. Today the state of Meghalaya is one of the seven states in the eastern part of India that is known as the Seven Sisters. Its southern and western frontlines are an international border with Bangladesh. The state’s topography is made up of grasslands, hills and river valleys. Besides its main cash crops of rice and maize, the state is famous for producing fruits like oranges, pineapples and jackfruits.
