Mymensingh is the most recent Division to have emerged from the administrative reorganisation of the country under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in recent times. It was carved out of the Dhaka Division in 2015 with Mymensingh district as its central focus, with its headquarters at Mymensingh, a town located in the northern parts of Bangladesh bordering the Indian state of Meghalaya. It is one of the least populated and smallest of Bangladesh’s eight Divisions but is of great geopolitical importance as it shares a part of the Brahmaputra Valley with the Indian state of Assam.
