Barisal

Lying geographically south of Dhaka and west of Chittagong Division, Barisal is home to the world heritage site of the Sunderban Reserves, which it shared with neighbouring Khulna Division. It is an ecologically sensitive region with a confluence of two of the largest rivers in Bangladesh, the Ganges and the Brahmaputra. Located in the deltaic region, it acts as a source of Bangladesh rich riverine resources from fish to rich alluvial soil, which adds to Bangladesh’s agrarian political economy.
