Tripura

Tripura is surrounded by Bangladesh to its north, south and west. The state is connected to India by only one road, the National Highway 44. The state became a part of the Union of India in 1947 after its last ruling Maharaj Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya handed it over to the newly independent country. About half of Tripura’s land area is covered by forests, some which house unique species of bamboo that are not found anywhere else in the world. At the time of independence, most of the economy was agriculture and forest based, with little to no industrial production.
