Nagaland

Tropical and subtropical forests cover one sixth of the land of Nagaland. It has a rich flaura and fauna of trees such as palm, bamboo, mahogany etc, and animals such as elephants, tigers, bears, deers and rhinoceros. Shifting agriculture is practiced in these regions and the state shares an international border with Myanmar on its east. Oppressive Burman rule in the late 19th century was followed by British colonization in the region. The integration of Nagaland with India has been marred by violent uprisings that were quelled with an accord in 1960 that granted the region statehood.
