The name Himachal comes from the Sanskrit word ‘Hima’ meaning snow. The Himachal Pradesh, meaning ‘in the lap of Himalayas,’ is known for its snow-capped mountains. Known as a peaceful destination, this state attracts numerous tourists looking for a spiritual experience. Home to the Dalai Lama, this peaceful northern state bears a strong Tibetan presence. The state also has 33 Wildlife Sanctuaries and two National Parks, out of which the ‘Great Himalayan National Park’ is a UNESCO declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The state is also host to some of the oldest boarding schools in the country, founded in the British era.Jai Ram Thakur
