Western

Sri Lanka’s most populous province, the importance of the Western Province is obvious from the fact that it is home to both the country’s legislative capital, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, and its commercial capital, Colombo. Located in the southwest of Sri Lanka, the Western Province borders the North Western Province to the north, the Southern Province to the south, the Sabaragamuwa Province to the east, and the Laccadive Sea surrounds it to the west. Bordering the sea, it one of Sri Lanka’s most rapidly growing urban centres but with high vulnerability to floods.
