Bihar

The word ‘Bihar’ is originally derived from the Sanskrit and Pali word ‘Vihara’ meaning abode. Located in eastern India, Bihar is known for the origin of the two biggest religions in the world, Buddhism and Jainism. Historically, Bihar was an epicentre of knowledge, culture, power and learning. The city Pataliputra (now Patna) is the oldest continuously inhabited city in India. It is also the home of the world’s oldest university – Nalanda University. Almost 58 percent of Biharis are below the age of 25, giving Bihar the highest proportion of young people compared to any other state in India.
